This book examines the use of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) from the perspective of its contribution to the development of sustainable and agile IT systems that are able to adapt to new technology developments and to manage business processes. In this regard the end result can be seen as
a kind of future-proofing of systems and architectures which will deliver long-term cost and performance benefits.
This type of system architecture utilizes select aspects of techniques such as the object-oriented approach, entreprise architecture, BPM, and other theories. It is also based on the Business Rules Management System (BRMS), on Master Data Management (MDM), which allows for the management of data and parameters, and last but not least on Model-Driven Architecture (MDA). Various levels – including Cosmetic, Extended and Overhaul – of SOA implementation are currently being developed, which in the context of overall SOA also opens up a debate on the approach that a company takes towards the organization of different methods and technologies in the field of IT, and the relationship between the user and the Chief Information Officer. This book is based on the open source Praxeme method; examples and case studies are taken from large SOA projects which were deployed to rewrite the information systems of a large insurance company using this method.
IT systems engineers and designers, programmers and computer scientists, corporate decision-makers, as well as anyone who will use these new systems or technologies will find this book a very useful resource.
